Alwan Nets 1000th Point in Stockton Victory

Boxscore

Scranton, PA – Richard Stockton senior Lauren Alwan (Cherry Hill/Timber Creek) scored her 1,000th career point in the final minute and the Ospreys (8-3) bounced back from yesterday's loss with a 65-61 victory over Eastern University (7-3) in the Scranton Hilton Poinsettia Classic. Alwan entered the game with 986 points and reached 1,000 on two free throws with 18 seconds remaining. A 2014 NJAC Honorable Mention selection, she is the 12th player to net her 1,000th career point in a Stockton uniform.

Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring a team-high 19 points on 9-13 shooting (69.2%). Alwan finished with 14 points while Alex Nardoza (Fords/Woodbridge) poured in 13 points and dished a game-high five assists. Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) contributed eight points, nine rebounds and seven blocks while playing all 40 minutes. The Ospreys scored 26 points off 22 Eastern turnovers.

Stockton led just once in the first half, for 48 seconds at 7-6 after a layup by Williams. Eastern opened up a 20-11 lead, which the Ospreys cut to one as Farrell scored six points during a 13-5 run. The Ospreys could not sustain the momentum and they were outscored 7-2 in the last 1:18 of the half to face a 32-26 deficit at the break. Farrell's six points led the team.

Stockton turned the tide by topping Eastern 39-29 on 54.2 percent shooting in the second half. The Ospreys surged to the lead by scoring the first 10 points of the period, five of which came from Farrell. Later, the senior hit a jumper to put Stockton up 50-48 with 7:52 remaining on the sixth and final lead change of the second stanza.

With the game tied at 56, Farrell scored four straight points to give the Ospreys a 60-56 edge with 34 seconds on the clock but Eastern responded with a three-pointer to make it a 60-59 game. After a Nazdoza free throw and an Eastern turnover, Alwan went to the line with 18 ticks left and drained two to achieve her milestone as Stockton closed out the 65-61 triumph.

Stockton will have three weeks off before returning to action with an NJAC road game at New Jersey City on January 7 at 6 pm.
