Stockton 2015 Hall of Fame Class Inducted

Galloway, NJ - Stockton Athletics recognized its sixth Hall of Fame class at a dinner in the Campus Center Event Room on Friday night. The inductees were Courtney Dougherty '10 (women's soccer), Brian Hiltner '06 (men's basketball), Eric Reissek '02 (men's track & field), Tracy Smith '01 (volleyball), and the 1995 Stockton Women's Soccer Team.

The event began with opening remarks by Dr. Harvey Kesselman, Stockton University Interim President. Dougherty, a four-time NJAC all-conference player and the 2008 NJAC Midfielder of the Year, was first to the podium. She thanked her family followed by her teammates, of whom she said, "Getting this award tonight is a testament to all of my teammates."

Dougherty then spoke highly about her two former head coaches, Tom Miller at Ocean City High School and Stockton's Nick Juengert, under whom she serves as an assistant coach for the Ospreys. After Dougherty left the stage, she shared a nice moment in the hall receiving congratulations from several current Stockton players who watched her speech through a window.

The next inductee was 2005 NABC Second Team All-American Brian Hiltner, who summed up the night by saying, "It's nearly impossible to put into words the feeling when one's hard work is recognized with an honor like this." Hiltner, a two-time NJAC First Team and two-time NABC All-District First Team player, also thanked a variety of people and took a few light-hearted jabs at Stockton men's basketball coach Gerry Matthews, for whom he played from 2002-05.

After dinner, Reissek became the third inductee of the night. Reissek, a two-time All-American, four-time NJAC champion and four-time ECAC champion in the pole vault said, "I was driven by a desire to be my best" about his accomplishments. Reissek also stated, "All of my coaches helped me become not just a better athlete but a better person."

Smith was the final individual honoree of the night. She was the 2000 NJAC Player of the Year and a three-time NJAC First Team selection who led Stockton to its first NCAA Tournament win ever in volleyball in 2000. During her speech, Smith asked all of six of her former teammates who were in attendance to join her onstage as she spoke about them.

The induction of the 1995 Stockton Women's Soccer Team, the only female NCAA Final Four team in school history and lone Osprey squad ever to host a Final Four, began with remarks from head coach Roy Wilkins. The man who started the Stockton women's soccer program in 1989 described his 1995 squad as "incredibly intelligent and incredibly dedicated."

Suzanne Estevez, a member of the 1995 team, spoke on behalf of the players from that squad. Estevez used the phrase "competitive greatness" from legendary basketball coach John Wooden's Pyramid of Success to characterize the team. Estevez also uttered an expression that could be used to summarize the entire evening when she said, "Once an Osprey, always an Osprey."
