Galloway, NJ – Stockton University juniors
Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) and
Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) were selected to the
All-ECAC Second Team in women's lacrosse. Ojeda and Torales each received their second postseason honor of the year. The pair was voted to the NJAC First Team last month.
Ojeda and Torales helped Stockton to its first-ever ECAC championship in the five-year history of the program. The Ospreys finished with an 11-7 record, posting the second-highest win total in their five intercollegiate seasons.
Ojeda, an attack, had a breakout season, scoring a team-high 41 goals and dishing five assists for 46 points. The junior scored 12 of her goals from free position (T-6th in NJAC) and ranked in the top 10 of the conference in four other categories. Ojeda was tied for third in the NJAC in game winning goals (4), seventh in goals (41) and goals per game (2.28 gpg) and 10th in shots per game (4.67 spg).
Ojeda also contributed 22 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 16 draw controls, establishing career highs in every statistical category. She tied a school record with seven goals in a 14-12 win over Ramapo on April 7 and scored at least one in 16 of Stockton's 18 games.
Torales, playing midfield and defense, had another strong year and added scoring punch to her resume. She scored 25 goals with five assists for 30 points and led the team with 44 ground balls (T-5th in NJAC) and 27 caused turnovers (T-4th in NJAC), both of which are school records.
Torales also snagged 27 draw controls, which ranked fourth on the team. Like Ojeda, she produced career highs in every statistical category this season. Last weekend, Torales was named MVP of the ECAC Tournament for her outstanding play in Stockton's two-game run to the title.
