Ewing, NJ – Stockton University equaled its best men's finish ever at the NJAC Outdoor Championships, second place, and edged The College of New Jersey by six points for second place on the women's side. The conference meet took place yesterday and today at TCNJ. The Ospreys won five women's events and two men's events. Stockton competitors also were the runners-up in a total of 10 events.
Emily Higbee (Absecon/Holy Spirit) led the Osprey women's squad with three victories and one second-place finish. Higbee won the shot put (13.00m), discus (38.64m) and hammer throw (43.52m) while also finishing second in the javelin (38.00m). Higbee won the NJAC outdoor title in the hammer throw for the third straight year and shot put for the second season in a row.
Kaitlyn Dermen (Millville/Millville) repeated as the NJAC outdoor champion in the pole vault (3.70m) and
Joanna Carluccio (West Caldwell/Caldwell) captured her second straight NJAC crown in the heptathlon (3,927 points). The Stockton men's winners were a pair of freshmen,
Keith Holland (Bayville/Central Regional) in the pole vault (4.57m) and
Steven Jernee (Ocean City/Ocean City) in the javelin (60.72m).
Isabel Barsch (Barnegat/Southern Regional) finished second behind Higbee in the hammer throw (42.65m).
Elizabeth Douglas (Thorofare/West Deptford) was the runner-up behind Dermen in the pole vault (3.20m), followed by
Kristina Raylman (Warren Grove/Southern Regional) in third place on a tiebreaker (3.20m).
On the track,
Regina Duncan (Frelinghuysen Twp./North Warren) placed second in the 1500m (4:39.70) and
Christina Welsh (Hamilton/Hamilton West) was second in the 10,000m (40:23.12). Dermen joined
Erica Burdsall (Bridgeton/Cumberland),
Abby Lodge (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and
Jayla Harrison (Deptford/Deptford) for second place in the 4x400 relay (4:00.10).
For the Stockton men's team,
Jared Lewis (Westville/Deptford) finished second in the long jump (7.16m) and
Donovan Bryan-Frank (Teaneck/Teaneck) placed second in the high jump (2.07m). Bryan-Frank also teamed with
Sean Ford (Edison/St. Joseph),
Jaythan Vereen (Deptford/Deptford) and
Jahmir Ellis (Glassboro/Deptford) for the runner-up spot in the 4x100 relay (43.40 seconds).
Olivier Paul (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) finished second in the 400m hurdles (53.88 seconds), followed by
Omar Dogbey (Manalapan/Manalapan) in third place (54.13 seconds).
Ryan Brewster (Newton/Newton) placed third in the decathlon (5,575 points) for the Ospreys as well.
Third-place finishers for the women's team were Harrison in the 400m (58.07 seconds),
Jessica McRae (Keyport/Carteret) in the triple jump (11.09m),
Emmy LaFevre (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) in the discus (35.85m),
Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) in the hammer throw (42.06m) and
Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) in the javelin (34.93m).
The Ospreys who qualified for the Atlantic Region Championships will compete in that meet, which will be held at SUNY Brockport on May 16-17.
